I am often humbled by nature, perhaps because its the most constant reminder I get that, well I am not in control. That's my life lesson, or one of them anyway. I always get reminded that I can not control everything no matter how much I think I should try. Usually when life is getting crazy and hectic and I'm losing control, is when I really need to step back and drop in, and listen and remind myself to have faith.
I find the biggest reminder is nature. I live in New York where we have all 4 seasons (well some years, other years it seems like we have 2). Also my property used to be a wooded area so I am surrounded by trees. Year after year I study these trees and I'm amazed by them. The way they know how to change the colors of their leaves and be flexible in the wind. The way they know when it's time to let go, and move on as they head into the winter. The way they can stand their ground through the harshest of winter storms, and bitter cold. The way they will reemerge with tiny buds, signaling the renewal will come. The way they flourish and blossom in the spring, and provide shade in the strong warmth of the summer.
There was a tree on my way to work last year that literally grew in on a tiny hill at a 90 degree angle. NO matter what the weather had to bring that tree was still standing!
We could all learn a thing of two from the trees!
